Fiery Gizzard Trail

Fiery Gizzard Trail

Part of the South Cumberland State Park system, the Fiery Gizzard trail has been profiled as one of our country's 25 top trails by Backpacker magazine. With numerous waterfalls, camping spots, and Hemlock trees over 200 years old on its 12.5 mile loop and a much easier 3 mile loop, the Gizzard is a must see for any visitors.

Once the Beersheba Springs Hotel, this now serves as a place for Methodist retreats as well as the Beersheba Springs Crafts Fair alongside beautiful historic Beersheba Springs homes, outlooks, and an outdoor chapel. Right near Stone Door park and the future site of Shady Valley, two parts of the South Cumberland State Park system.

Greeter Falls

Greeter Falls can be accessed by a short 1.6 mile loop just before entering Beersheba Springs. One of the taller waterfalls in the South Cumberland State Park system, this and our own Blue Hole Falls (accessible by the same trailhead) make great swimming holes in the summer.

Stone Door

Stone Door

Stone Door makes up part of the South Cumberland State Park system, and gives access to breathtaking vistas of the coves below by a short (1.6 mi.), mostly paved trail. It also features a unique stone staircase that cuts through the rock, giving intrepid hikers and campers access to further trails in Savage Gulf.

Colloquially called Sewanee, this liberal arts school and domain is about 10 minutes from Monteagle. Featuring extensive hiking trails, lakes, bluff views, and caves alongside neo-gothic architecture made from local sandstone, Sewanee is definitely worth a look and the Sewanee Inn is worth a stay.

The Monteagle Assembly still remains a spot of summer respite for families across the South, but its shaded walking trails are available for anyone to visit. Meander around, catch a local choir performance, visit for Trails and Trilliums, and see some of the beautiful historic houses or stay at the Edgeworth inn.
